Buxus Variegated Cone

$120.00

A variegated Buxus cone is an elegant evergreen topiary shaped into a clean, tapered cone and distinguished by its two‑tone foliage. Its small, tightly packed leaves display deep green centers edged with creamy white or soft yellow, giving the plant a bright, textured look that stands out in both sun and partial shade. Because boxwood grows slowly and responds well to trimming, the cone shape stays crisp with only occasional light pruning. Gardeners value it for the year‑round structure it brings to entrances, patios, and formal beds, as well as for the contrast it provides against softer or more colorful plantings. Its evergreen nature ensures it remains a focal point even in winter, making it a reliable architectural element in traditional and contemporary landscapes alike.

Hardiness Zones
Most variegated boxwood cultivars thrive in USDA zones 5–9. They tolerate winter cold reasonably well but appreciate some protection from harsh winter winds.
Mature Size
Height: Typically 3–5 feet when maintained as a cone, though untrimmed plants can grow taller over many years.
Width: Usually 1.5–3 feet, depending on pruning and cultivar. The clipped cone shape keeps it smaller and more architectural than a naturally growing shrub.
Light Requirements
Performs best in partial shade to full sun.
Variegated foliage can be more sensitive to intense afternoon sun, so light shade during the hottest part of the day helps prevent leaf scorch.
Water Requirements
Prefers consistent, moderate moisture.
Soil should be well‑drained; boxwood dislikes soggy conditions.
Newly planted specimens need regular watering until established; mature plants prefer even moisture but can handle short dry spells once rooted.
